Family Yoga

Breakwater and the Forest Playgroup have partnered with some of Portland's best yoga teachers to offer a free, family-inclusive yoga program – Portland Family Yoga.

Join us every Wednesday at 9am in the Breakwater "Dan".

All ages are welcome to join in the fun!

* Please note: Programming will be cancelled if Breakwater is closed due to inclement weather.

The Forest Playgroup is a Breakwater-supported and parent-facilitated program that aims to provide a space for like-aged children to explore, learn and interact outside. Integrating principles from child-led educational models, our program has activities to support our children’s natural curiosity and developmental learning. With a holistic, family-focus, we are working to cultivate a positive, active and inspiring culture for parents and fill an important niche within our community.

Join this week's lovely powerhouse team, father Ben & little helper Malcom and mama Michelle & little sassafras Chloe, for an adventure focused around loving winter!

Let's embrace the snow and gather for a sledding adventure at Payson's Park. We'll have a Valentine's Day themed activity to share love between our community– our adventurous littles will find a love stone and then give it to a friend sharing something they love about them and/or their adventures together. The rest of the time will be spent making the most of what has been a depressing amount of snow this winter. :)

Location: We'll gather at the hill at Payson's Park abutting Ocean Ave. Park either at the top of the hill, on Ocean Ave., or in the lot located at the bottom of the hill accessible from Baxter Blvd.

Friendly reminder: IMPORTANT! NOT sharing IS caring!
We have a handful of children in our community with sever food allergies. If your child needs a snack please keep eyes on your child when they are eating to ensure no scraps are being left for other friends and/or sharing is happening without parent-consent. Let's keep these adventures safe and inclusive for all!

It's a winter wonderland out there... Finally, snow! Go have some fun and mark your calendars for our rescheduled Full Moon Potluck in the Woods and Family Adventure on Saturday March 11th.

Next Date for Both Events: Our RESCHEDULED Family Adventure and Potluck is on Saturday, March 11

Time: Family Adventure begins at 3pm / Potluck starts around 4:30 and continues until 8pm (come early, stay late... or come late, leave early: DO YOU!)

Location: Breakwater's Jessieland Nature Preserve, Jessie Lane, Cumberland

Parking: Please park respectfully on Jessie Lane, and overflow on Tuttle Road. It is a very short, wheel-travel friendly walk down Jessie Lane to the entrance of Jessieland.

Breakwater's Family Adventures program provides day-trips that get families outside to discover the natural world around them. From snowshoeing to surfing, we aim to create fun, inspiring, shared experiences that instill a love for and confidence in bringing your family on outdoor adventures.

This Saturday, set off on Jessieland trails and track some of Maine's wildlife. Follow their prints to find their animal cutout and win one of six awesome prizes donated by our local community businesses!

  • Play it Again Sports: $20 gift card
  • MamaHen: Mama-made clothing
  • Seadogs: 4 tickets
  • Greener Postures: 5-class pass

Call it after the adventure, or stick around for our Potluck in the Woods happening immediately afterwards. This is an adventure you won't want to miss...

Breakwater's Community Potluck in the Woods is a monthly event aimed to build community through fostering a shared experience outside. Rally your family and your friends, gather around the fire, and join us to celebrate community and the outdoors!

Please bring something delicious to share for our potluck, your own utensils/plate/cup, and a flashlight.

*We will have cards out for people to identify their dish and the ingredients to ensure this is a safe and inclusive gathering for all.
